Tool

Mix Check

Two sides, nine classes on each. The answer is one of three states, and the rule that produced it is named in the result and printed in full below.

First product class

Second product class

Choose one class on each side. The answer appears here, along with the rule that decided it.

What this tool does not mean

  • No known conflict published does not mean the two can be mixed. It means nothing published was found.
  • This site does not recommend mixing anything with anything, in any combination, at any time.
  • Where there is any doubt at all, the manufacturer label on the product decides, and the care label on the garment decides the load.

The rules, in full

These are applied in order and the first one that matches decides. Nothing else is consulted, and no answer is generated that is not one of these.

Rules for a product against a product

  1. P0 A class compared with itself is not a pairing. That input is turned off rather than answered.
  2. P1 Chlorine bleach with ammonia-based cleaners is Never together, and it has a page of its own.
  3. P2 Chlorine bleach with anything else is Never together, following the second half of the published instruction.
  4. P3 Ammonia-based or acidic cleaners with anything else is Never together. Household cleaners are not mixed on this site.
  5. P4 A dye trap with a stain spray is Check both labels, and it has a page explaining what a dye trap is not.
  6. P5 Two products that both go into the wash water is Check both labels.
  7. P6 Anything else is No known conflict published, which is not the same as permission.

Rules for a product against a fiber

  1. F1 Ammonia-based or acidic cleaners against any fiber is Never together. These are not laundry products and they do not go into a wash.
  2. F2 Chlorine bleach against wool and silk, or against elastane blends, is Never together. Neither is among the fabrics the published source names it for, and elastane is named as an exception.
  3. F3 Chlorine bleach against any other fiber is Check both labels, because the published source sends you to the care label in every case.
  4. F4 Where a conflict page on this site covers that product class and that fiber, the answer is Check both labels and the cell links to the page.
  5. F5 Oxygen bleach against any other fiber is Check both labels, because the published source recommends testing on colored fabric before use.
  6. F6 Anything else is No known conflict published, which is not the same as permission.

Where the never answers come from

Every result of never together on this page traces to a published instruction rather than to a judgement made here. The full pages are under Conflicts.
